Dear Diary,

Today I decided to eat a sock and a pair of mom’s underwear.

Mom and Dad left me alone again and I got bored and I missed them. Sometimes when that happens I eat their clothes because that’s what you’re suppose to do when you miss someone right?

Anyway, this time it didn’t feel so good. I don’t think I should have ate both at once. Oh well.

Friday, September 22nd, 2017

I woke up today and don’t feel great. I think this will pass. I’m going to eat my breakfast and Dad wants to go for a run so I’m gonna go.

We’re back from the run and I don’t feel good at all. I threw up once on the run…something doesn’t feel right.

Mom’s home from work now so I am lying here on the floor with her. We thought a walk might help, but I threw up on the sidewalk on our way home. Oh man I think something is wrong. Mom looks concerned.

I threw up all over the floor in kitchen and again outside a few more times. I don’t want to eat my dinner either.

Dad came home from work around midnight and checked me out and decided we would wait until morning to see the doctor.

I threw up a few more times last night. I don’t know what’s going on. I’m scared and so are Mom and Dad.

Mom is taking me to the doctor this morning and Dad has to go to Peterborough to play sports.

We got to the doctor early and I threw up again outside. I’m so tired and feel so sick.

We got in to see the doctor and she felt my belly and stuck a thermometer up my butt. Then she brought me into the back room to take x-rays. She came back out and showed Mom. She told her I have a small intestinal obstruction (I bet you didn’t know I knew that word ;)) and that I need to go to an emergency vet clinic.

Mom calls a cab and then we get in and I throw up a little in the back seat :\ The ride is terrible and I am so scared. Mom is trying to make me feel better.

We get to the emergency clinic and wait a while. The doctor looks at me and then tells mom that I need surgery. I’ve never had surgery before, I’m so scared! They bring me to the back room with all the other animals and put me in a crate. They shave my arm and put a needle in me to hook up a long tube with saline. I feel a little better but still not very good.

I wait a couple hours and then I go in for the surgery. I’m very scared at first but then I get very sleepy.

When I wake up my belly is very sore. I feel pretty dopey. The doctor calls Mom and Dad to tell them that I had a lot of stuff in my intestines… something that looked like a sock and maybe underwear. Seems my dirty sock fetish finally got the better of me! They had to cut 3 holes in my intestines and 1 hole in my stomach to get everything out. The doctor seemed confident that I would heal well and that the risk of the stitches in the intestines opening up is very rare.

Phewf!

I wake up this morning feeling very groggy and very sore. Mom and Dad come to visit me. The doctors keep putting drugs in me that make me sleepy.

Monday, September 25th, 2017

Today I feel a lot better! I have finally had an appetite and eat a little bit of food. The doctors have taken all the needles and tubes out of me and say I get to go home later! But I have to wear a stupid cone on my head πŸ™

Mom comes and picks me up from the hospital. It’s hard to get into the car. Even harder to get out once we get home. Mom needs to make a ramp out of the car for me and asks a nice man next door for help.

The stairs to our house are hard to go up, but even harder to go down. I have to pee a lot and I peed on the floor. I feel ashamed.

When Dad gets home Mom and him try to carry me down the stairs in Dad’s hockey bag. It was scary. Mom hurt her back and Dad was sweaty. We didn’t do that again.

That night I ate chicken and it was delicious. We went on a little walk but then I got really tired. I feel ok, but not great.

Tuesday, September 26th, 2017

Mom and Dad left early this morning to drive to Peterborough to sign papers for the new house. I stayed home but I wish I could have went. I am sleepy and don’t feel very good again. I threw up this morning.

Mom and Dad get home around lunch time and look concerned. Dad goes to work and Mom stays home with me. She lays on the floor with me and we fall asleep.

I don’t feel like eating again. I feel sick and my head feels hot.

Mom looks worried and when Dad comes home they take me to the doctor again.

On the way there I get to sit in the front seat with my head out the window and it is glorious!

The doctor feels my belly and does an ultrasound. They stick a needle in my belly and take fluid out. They say there is no bacteria in the fluid. They give me a needle with anti-nausea medicine and I feel a bit better.

We stay there until midnight and then the doctor says I can go home.

Wednesday, September 27th, 2017

Dad stayed with me today. He tried to feed me but I didn’t want to eat any food. I don’t feel good at all.

Mom comes home at lunch time and then we all go back to the doctor.

There is a new doctor today and she wants me to stay at the hospital tonight. Mom and Dad agree but they look very sad. The doctors hook me up to the needle with the fluid again. I still don’t feel very good. I have a fever. They do another ultrasound and take fluid from my belly again. All this for a lousy sock!!

Thursday, September 28th, 2017

The doctor calls Mom and Dad and say that there is a lot more fluid in my belly and I have a high fever. They want to do another operation to see what’s going on.

Mom and Dad agree.

Mom calls Grandpa while I am in surgery and Grandpa tells her that his dog, Uncle Roxy got hit by a car today and passed away. Mom and Grandpa are very sad. I am very sad, I will miss you Uncle Roxy :'(

I wake up from the surgery with my belly feeling sore again and I’m very dopey. The doctor calls Mom and Dad to tell them that all of my stitches in my intestines opened up again and were leaking fluid into my belly. The doctor closed them all again and ran 7 litres of fluid through my intestines to makes sure there were no leaks.

They put a drain in my belly this time so that the fluid can leak out. I am on 3 different IV pain medications..feeling pretty good!

I’m feeling pretty positive about this one – I think they fixed me for good!

Friday September 29th, 2017

Today is moving day. Mom and Dad pack our whole apartment into 1 truck and then come and see me at the hospital before they leave for our new house.

I am feeling better but still very tired and sore. They want to take me home but I have to stay here.

Saturday September 30th, 2017

Today I am feeling a bit better. I don’t have a fever but I am hooked up to a lot of machines.

Mom and Grandpa came to visit me today. They tried to feed me, but I’m not that hungry.

The doctor is concerned that I am not eating, so they put a feeding tube through my nose. I don’t like it much. I try and sneeze it out or grab at it, but this darn cone is in the way!

Sunday, October 1st, 2017

I’m not feeling so well today. I have a fever again. The doctor calls Mom and Dad and tell them that I’m ok but they are a little concerned about my fever.

A few hours later the doctor calls to tell Mom and Dad that the drain from my belly is producing fluid with bacteria. They think that the incisions in my intestines have opened again πŸ™ If that is the case the doctor doesn’t know if I will make it. I am scared and very sad. They ask Mom and Dad what they want to do. Mom and Dad are very sad and scared too.

They agree to go ahead with the surgery again. The doctor will call them as soon as they have any news.

4 hours later Mom and Dad get the good news that it was just the drain tube in my belly that was infected and none of the incisions in my intestines had opened again! They are so happy. The doctor moves the drain and cleans everything up. They put me on 3 different antibiotics and hook me up to 3 different pain medications. I wake up from the surgery and I am feeling ok, really dopey again, and pretty sore.

Monday, October 2nd, 2017

Mom and Dad come and see me today. I am happy to see them. It’s hard, but I manage to wag my tail a few times when they arrive. I have a lot of drugs hooked up to me, but I think I’m getting better.

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017

Today I am feeling so much better. Dad comes to see me and I eat a whole plate a food for him! He takes me outside and I get to see Mom in the car. I try to get in the car with her – car rides are my favourite. I want to go home today but Dad tells me I need to stay a bit longer.

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017

This is the best I’ve felt in a while! I like all the staff here they make me feel special. I still have the tube in my belly but today they took the feeding tube out of my nose. They took me off the IV drugs too. The doctor calls Mom and Dad and says I am doing great and they think I can go home tomorrow.

Woohoo!

Today is a good day because I get to go home today. Mom and Dad come to get me in the afternoon. I get to sit in the back seat with the window down! I am loving life!

It is taking a long time to get home for some reason… I think we passed our apartment a long time ago. Is dad lost? He must be lost.

We finally arrive and we are at a new house! Wow! There is so much space here. All of my things are here and I have so many new toys!!

I am so happy to be home. Mom and Dad missed me so much. I am getting very spoiled now. πŸ™‚

One week later…

Today I get to go back to Toronto with Mom to visit the doctor and get my stitches out. I am very excited to be back and see everyone.

The doctor comes and gets me and brings me into the back room. Everyone cheers for me – I am so happy!

I come back out in 5 minutes without my cone and the stitches are out! I get to go home for good now. And thank god that stupid cone is gone!

I am so happy. Thank you to all the Doctors at the Toronto Veterinary Referral Clinic for saving my life 3 times!

No more socks for me.
